Homemade Snow Globes

I found this idea on Pintrest and made them.  The directions were a lie!!  We looked all over for instructions but no-go. So we tweaked, ruined, tweaked some more…and finally we made them!! They turned out so cute and then after ours shipped…someone I “follow” posted very similar directions to what we did.  Go figure! So…anyway…this is tried and true!

Item’s you’ll need:
any type of jar (I got Ball canning jars at Michael’s.  They were a buck cheaper there than Hobby Lobby but you can get them even cheaper at Wal-Mart when available)
Liquid glycerine(found this at Walmart by the Bandaids & Neosporin)
distilled water
figurines that will fit ON THE LID OF YOUR JAR
waterproof glue.  I used a glue gun the first time around…bad idea.  Then I used Amazing Goop.  Much better!!

1. Select your figurines and be sure they fit how you want them placed.  I found my little trees and figurines in the Christmas section of Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby.  You could use anything that will not rust in water.
2. Glue your figurine to the lid of the jar and let dry.
3.  Fill your jar almost to the top with distilled water.
4. Add about 3 pinches of glitter.  I chose white and silver so it would look like snow.
5. Add a couple of tablespoons of glycerine.  This thickens the water and helps the snow to fall slowly when you shake it up.
6. Screw the lid on the jar(figurine upside down)

7. To be safe we used a clear silicone and sealed the jar.  We had to ship a lot of ours.

Sorry my pics are small.  You can click on them to make them bigger.  Would someone care to help me figure out iPhoto?!? My pics are there but I can’t get to them?!?

Brown Sugar Vanilla Body Scrub

This is my favorite body scrub. Actually Origins Ginger Scrub is but it’s $45.00 a jar-blech!

I bought all the stuff needed here and then made a batch of cookies with the ingredients left over 🙂

It’s the perfect exfoliate for your heels, knees and elbows and great for your tan legs in the summer time too.

I made a batch for my neighbors and they have already come back for more!!

You want to begin by mixing 2 Cups of Brown Sugar and 1 Cup of Granulated Sugar together until there are no lumps. Add in 1 Cup of Sunflower Oil and 1 Tablespoon of Pure Vanilla Extract. Then squirt a little honey in there too.

{I like to use Sunflower Oil for this body scrub because it does not carry the strong scent that Olive Oil does}

Mix together well and scoop into a sealable glass container.

I found some cute, cheap ones just like this one in the Wal-Mart Home Goods section.

Make a cute little label or stick a decal on the jar.  Tie with ribbon and voila!

If you or the recipient have never used a body scrub before…you rub a heaping spoonful of this all over your body (in the shower) and then rinse. It leaves you exfoliated and soft as silk! I wouldn’t store it in the shower but it will store/keep for a couple weeks as long as it is in an air-tight container.

{note: Because my iPhoto is acting up…I stole these pics from the web :)}

My crafty neighbor gave me this idea last year so when my friends loved one passed away and she was telling me about a special song he played all the time…I thought this would make a great Christmas gift for her. You can print out specific sheet music (most you can find on line if you just Google it + free sheet music) or just print out classic Christmas carol sheet music or use sheets from an old hymn book…whatevs 🙂

Print it on parchment paper or something nicer/heavier…

Anyway…use this pattern or make a symetrical one of your own.  Trace on your print out and then cut it out.

Fold it into a cone shape at the bottom, matching up the dotted lines and, using a glue gun or double sided tape…seal it.

Using a very small hole punch-punch holes on either side and string with ribbon.  Makes a beautiful, sentimental set of ornaments.

Most songs are more than one page of music but you can print the same page out more than once for as many ornaments as you’d like to make.

Thought this was another cute, cheap idea and she includes a template to create your own too!! You could tweak these for your spouse too…stocking stuffer?!

I literally copied and pasted this from her blog.

A Year of Dates

by AMY on DECEMBER 16, 2011

parent and child date coupons” Kids spell love T-I-M-E.” (John Crudele}My husband and I have been wanting to plan regular one-on-one dates with the girls for a while now. We love doing things as a family, but having some “just me and you” time is really special, too. With that in mind, we decided to give the girls a Year of Dates for Christmas this year – an envelope for each month, with a special surprise date inside. We brainstormed date ideas and came up with a variety of fun activities. Some are outings, while some are doing projects at home. We also tried to keep them fairly inexpensive. My dates with the girls will be:

  • Shop for and cook a recipe of your choice.
  • Choose a craft or sewing project for us to do together.
  • Go to the bookstore for a new book and a treat.
  • Go out to dinner at a restaurant of your choice.
  • Go shopping for a new outfit.
  • Kid’s choice!

The dates with Dad will be:

  • Do a woodworking project together.
  • Go on a nature hike.
  • Go out to breakfast at a restaurant of your choice.
  • Have a movie night – at home or at the theater.
  • Go bowling or miniature golfing.
  • Kid’s choice!

We made two sets of coupons and divided them up into envelopes for each month. The girls will get to open their envelope at the beginning of the month to find out their surprise date! They will alternate having one-on-one dates with mom or dad.

date coupons for parents and kids

I’m pretty happy to be giving the girls the gift of our time and attention – this is definitely one of those gifts that keeps on giving.

We can’t wait to give them their coupons – I hope they are as excited as we are! I’m thinking we should make a little scrapbook of our dates for the whole year – wouldn’t that be fun?

Update: Download and print our Parent & Child Date Coupons! I added 2 pages of blank coupons to the download so you can create your own dates, too. Enjoy!
